My Arm Can Fly

Fantasy Needle Felt

Felter Skelter - your essential needle felting column from Mr X Stitch!

For this month’s column, I’ve selected some of my favourite fantasy felt artwork. These are some of the most imaginative needle felt creations I’ve come across, full of wonderful detail and expression.

Sarah “Wolfie” Strub

As “My Arm Can Fly” is the work of artist Sarah “Wolfie” Strub. She creates one of a kind fantasy monsters like “Flox” and “Dream Snake” above. I love the integration of clay and mixed media into the felt sculptures. You can find more of her work on Etsy, plus some excellent process photos on Tumblr and Facebook.

This artist uses really unusual faces within her work, making these art dolls just a little bit different. The bodies are needle felted and then small details are added, such as the necklace on the guy below. I love the bright pink colour mixed with the yellow.

Soranokobako

Below are works from “Soranokobako” by artist Mamoru. My particular favourites are the curly-haired birds and unicorn pig! I only wish larger photos were available to see more of the detail. More on her website (in Japanese)

These needle felted characters are rather on the cute side of things, often pastel wools are used.

Fluffy Fuzzy

“Fluffy Fuzzy”  is the work of needle felt artist Veverka. Her fantasy creatures are inspired by animals and nature. I’m completely charmed by the sweet smiling face of her “Garden Gnome”. For more, check out her Etsy shop

As always, I hope you’ve enjoyed this instalment of Felter Skelter!
